Fall Fashion Trends of 2023

Everything is Cherry! (Images are all from Pinterest)

As we head into the colder season and the festivities of Christmas I want to look back on this years fall fashion trends. Fashion trend experiences are unique to each person as each person may have a different perspective on each fashion piece. While I may not be in favor of certain products I cannot deny the persistence of each products’ appearance in social media as well as in public. Each product chosen is based on how often I saw the product posted on social media.

Platform Uggs

Ugg is already a popular brand for boots as it is. All through out high school I saw all the girls wearing a pair of Uggs as soon as September came by. I hopped on the trend and bought a pair of classic black Uggs. They kept me warm and they lasted all four years of high school. After those years I stopped wearing it. In the year of 2022 the talisman boots were popular and still is. I saw it all around campus and all over social media. I wanted a pair as well that year but I was a little hesitant about it. When I finally cave into purchasing it It sold out. Instead I bought a pair of slippers. I hated it. My foot slipped out of the slippers every time I walked. It might have been due to the fact that there was so much fur inside the shoes. Fast forward to this year, the talisman shoes is still on my mind. The regular ones are on pre-order but Ugg came out with a platform version. So I decided to finally get a pair and I love it. It keeps your feet warm and cozy. It is comfortable and easy to walk in.

Why Uggs? The neutral tone of Uggs allow it to be worn in various ways. It can be worn dressed up or dressed down all while guaranteeing warmth and comfort. Pairing the Uggs with a pair of leggings or sweat pants is the most common way to wear your Uggs to maximize comfort. Pairing the Uggs with a classic pair of jeans or dress pants is a way to bring comfort to a dressed up outfit. Not only can you pair it with a pair of jeans but some may even pair it with shorts or even a skirt. If you look through Pinterest you can see that there are many ways to style an outfit with your Uggs.

Bow details

I believe that the trend of bows or ribbons stem from the pink Pilates princess aesthetic that gained popularity through TikTok. It went from adding pink silky ribbons to different hair styles to adding it to various pieces of clothing or accessories. I’ve seen where people add bows on the sides of their jeans by tying it to the belt loop of the jeans. I have seen people tie a bow to the loop on the back of their Uggs. I have seen people tie a bow on the strap of their purses.

I personally think that this trend is very cute and feminine. I myself bought a bunch of silky ribbons from Joanns to add a little cute detail to my outfits. I also have a yellow shirt from Whitefox -that has ribbon details on the shoulders and the sides. The ribbon can be pulled together to create a big bow tie on the shoulders as well as cropping the top by creating a tight bow tie on the sides. There is a beautiful puffer jacket named “The Marshmallow Puffer” from the brand Selkie that I think is absolutely cute. The puffer jacket has a bow tie on each of the sleeves, it is cropped, and it comes in three colors: Strawberry Milk, Ivory, and Castle Pink. I do not know if you have heard of the brand but Selkie is a women Owned brand that sells romantic and whimsical clothing pieces.

If you are looking to create a whimsical and feminine adding little bow ties will do just that.

Long jean skirt

Over the summer I have seen several outfits from various influencers pairing a pair of long jean skirt with sneakers and a plain top. Personally I would not wear it because I think my legs look short and stout and would not look good with the skirt. Also it would be difficult to buy a skirt without having to hem the skirt so that it would not drag the floor. Other than that I think its amazing that long jean skirts are making a comeback.

In the summer many people paired it with sneakers and in the fall people pair it with knee high boots. It also comes in black or white as well. One can dress the skirt up by pairing it with a pair of knee high heeled boots and a nice knit sweater with possibly a belt to accentuate ones waist. To dress the skirt down maybe pair it with a regular crewneck sweater with a pair of sneakers. There are many ways to style the skirt by browsing through Pinterest.

Headphones

Every since Apple came out with the AirPods Max headphones, similar headphones became popular as well. There are many review videos comparing the headphones with similar style of headphones from other companies such as Sony, beats, and Bose. Since then I have noticed many outfits being styled with the headphones especially when a cute cover is added to the ear head part. Sometimes a bow is even added on each side of the ears.

The headphones can make an outfit comfy and personal. It can enhance a cozy and comfy outfit. Personal meaning that the headphones allow you to be in your own world without the sound of the environment invading your moment. It definitely makes those around you aware that you are not paying any mind to them. It can enhance the Princess Pilates look when the headphones are covered in pink and ribbons. Also I think that it is one of the prime components for a comfy airport look as well as for a gym rat. The perfect work out set paired with a pair of headphones in the gym is a typical look for a gym girlie.

Cherry red

I never thought I would ever consider wearing red but the amount of cherry red appearing on my social media feed I am reconsidering. It started out with the appearance of Coach bags and the cherry chains attached to it to the cherry red nails. I am also obsessed with the cherry red hair bow ties especially for winter and the holidays.

Colors I would pair it with include black, Gold, or white. The kitten MiuMiu heels I discovered through Pinterest is absolutely gorgeous but definitely pricey. I would probably get a dupe instead. Cherries taste sweet and the color is passionately beautiful.

Leg Warmers

Leg warmers was a trend in the 80s and is trending again in the recent years. It started out by being worn by dancers to keep their legs warm and since balletcore or the pink princess Pilates aesthetic has been trending it has returned. I think that it is a cute trend but I would only wear them during the fall or winter. I have seen it being worn with skirts or leggings. Personally I would just pair it with leggings and my Uggs because it makes sense to keep your legs warm from the snow or cold air. I have yet to try to pair it with a skirt and I am not afraid to try.

I was definitely influenced by the pink princess Pilates tiktokers. I already love the color pink and Pilates so it was easy for me to immerse myself into the aesthetic. I have yet to get a pink pair but I bought my beige leg warmers from American eagle. Overall, I think it is worth a try to style if you are thinking about it. It is essentially socks that cover only your legs.

Each trend I mentioned is based on my personal experience and my personal social media feed. Everybody is on different sides of TikTok and these are what happens to appear on mine. Every trend is up to my cup of tea except for the skirt. I am a sucker for the pink princess Pilates aesthetic or the balletcore. The trends are shown styled in various ways on one of my Pinterest boards Ive created for the blog post.

I hope you enjoyed reading about my thoughts on the trends I have found.
